Thames Valley schools set to reopen Thursday
All Thames Valley district schools have been inspected and are ready to open Thursday morning.

/ x+ X% B% q( C6 V! U“Our schools are ready to accept students and staff in the morning,” said Bill Tucker, Director of Education for the Thames Valley District School Board. “But we will continue to carefully monitor the weather overnight.”

If significant changes develop in weather and road conditions, information about specific schools will be posted on the Board (tvdsb.ca) and school websites .

5 a" ]: ~, D( s  g; r- bParents are strongly advised to monitor local news sources for the latest weather and road conditions and parents whose children ride school buses should monitor the Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Service website (mybigyellowbus.ca) for news about delays and cancellations.

Maintenance and custodial workers have been working around the clock inspecting and clearing snow at schools throughout the district.

  ^: E/ j. H0 D3 Y# l, m“I want to thank our custodial and maintenance staff, along with our independent snow contractors, for the amazing job they have done to get our schools ready,” added Director Tucker. “I am so impressed with the way everyone came together in the interests of our students.”

* i3 X- h' O# k9 H8 hStaff may find reduced parking at some schools due to the volume of snow and may wish to consider carpooling. All staff should report to their locations for a regular work day.

* _+ Y: z. d8 j. x; [! ?Parents and students should take special care walking to school and waiting at bus stops.

' H9 n# J' w' s1 G/ EIt is expected that not all of the systems 2,000 plus bus stops and the adjoining sidewalks will be cleared of snow accumulation. All stops are not expected to be cleared until early the week of December 13, 2010. In the interim, customers will board and disembark in the closest safe area to the stop, such as a cleared driveway. Customers are encouraged to arrive at stop locations early and if not at a designated bus stop, clearly indicate their intention to board.

5 {0 Z, w* R/ j) fWith snow tapering off and LTC resuming a normal schedule tomorrow, London campus will re-open for business as usual beginning 6:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010.

Operational plans will continue to ensure the care of students in residence.

1 x; e) V& k  O2 k+ C* EAs students continue to prepare for exams, scheduled to commence Monday, December 13th, a Q&A document has been posted for them on the student portal. (See Q&A below.)

* p; O" i, j& ~- \Senior Vice-President Academic Lane Trotter is expecting exams to go ahead as scheduled, beginning on Monday, December 13. For missed content from any cancelled classes, students should check their email and Fanshawe Online accounts regularly. Academic staff will continue to work on a plan to assist all students in an effort to minimize the disruption caused from days missed.

We will continue to monitor the weather and will post updates on the website, portals and Facebook and Twitter sites and on radio via 106.9 The X.
